This past two weeks have flown by! Between watching little ones, meetings, field service, family we have also had Caleb staying a week with us and Caitlynn stayed over the weekend since she is in school now. :-)

I finished my Mystery CAL, hosted by Janet and it was the cutest bag. The pattern is from Caron simply Soft Yarn Company and it is called Two Toned Tote. Here is the pattern link:

Here is my version using dark sage and bone yarns. Still need to put the lining and the plastic canvas in the bottom, but isnt it just cute! Just the right size for bringing with me when I travel with a small project!

Now I am starting on a sweater/jacket for Noami. She is almost a year and the daughter of a friends daughter, Courtney. I am using Bernat Softee Baby in Pink Rose and will trim in the white.

Here is the pattern link:

As you can see from this picture there is a dress as well and I might tackle that one after the jacket, hat and shoes are done. We will see.

Been busy with the kids and Caitlynn and Caleb came for a vist. In fact Caitlynn went to go and see the new James Bond movie with Kurt, Bonnie, Nina and Nathan and me. Guess she is used to James Bond action, because she fell asleep halfway through the movie. LOL

Here we are going to the movie and at the theater:

Well thats about it for this week. See you later!

Entry #23 - Dee Dee

DeeDee's collection:

My inspiration is the period of time between the mid 1950-to the early 1960s. The WiggleDress was the essence of femininity at a time period when men were men and womenwere allowed to be women. There was no shame in being a housewife, person who adoredher family, loved her home and enjoyed working with her hands and doing things withfriends.
I have included a picture of the inspiration. the overskirt was turned into the scarf.
the photo is courtesy of SoVintagePatterns.com.
My fabric is crepe back satin in aqua and the scarf is a chiffon print. I have turned the wiggle dress into a modern two piece outfit, that can be worn day or night.
Hair by DeeDee Studios
Shoes by DeeDee Couture Shoes were a flop, so Isabella had to take them off at the photo shoot. Please take points from me not her. :-)

Judge 1 1 1 1 Total 3 The color is vivid, but the construction needs work.

Judge 2 2 2 2 Total 6 the inspriration picture was cool. However I don't see much of the inspriation in your creation. The concept was unique. This satin fabric is difficult to sew with and the chiffon can even be trickier. I can't tell wether you pressed this or not and both fabrics may not have taken to the iron very well anyway. I think we need to have some pointers on marking fabric so there is no residue or marks left behind. The ruffles on the hemmline ruffle could be a little more even and the hems in the scarf could be better. I do like the bead treatment you attached the scarf to the blouse though.

Judge 3 2 2 1 Total 5 The colors coordinate very well, and I like scarf crossing the front and draping down the back. Improvement is needed in the fit of the bodice and at the waist/hips of the skirt. A longer bodice to meet or overlap the skirt would look nicer.

Total points: 14

I have been so very busy, with studying, taking care of family and the little ones I care for, and of course crocheting. But this month I have added sewing to the mix.

I joined a group called Project Dollway @ Home and entered the home version. Completed my 1st outfit last night and turned it in. Will post pictures after the judging takes place. Not expecting to win, just have fun and get my sewing juices flowing. Each outfit I design for Barbie will be made for me so its a challenge to pick the design options based upon the word (the challenges are based upon one word every two weeks) and make the outfit using my color pallete and the era I chose to update.

My era is the time period between mid 1950's to early 1960's. The first challenge revolved around the word vintage, which set the mood for our collections. This challenge period is two weeks. The second challenge (starting last night) was pleats and will end on November 9th. Have my design idea printed, my slopers ready to modify and my fabrics picked out. Now to decide ont he accessories and get started on them tomorrow, since my shoes flopped because of waiting to the last minute to do them. Another thing I need to work on.... time managment. If I plan out my days, revolving my hobbies around my studying for the meetings, housework, child care and most importantly my family, then I know I can actively do my hobby interests without worry or crunch.

Well enough of that for now.

Another project I am wrapping up is the Fall 101 swap. 52 squares. two sets of 27 in a pattern for each set. Will be mailing off tomorrow and at the end of the month will be gettingmy box back but with all 27 participants squares. Then I will be sewing them all together. Have to decide what color to use as my border... brown maybe since it is fall related.

Here is a pic of the 1st square:

Well thats about it. My tunic was put on hold because I frogged the front bodice 4 times and thought it best to set aside. But Dallas time is about on me so i need to get it finished so i can wear it then.
Catch you all later. Its back to Dora and crocheting for me!

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Well I have been crocheting but not on the hoodie. I wanted to make another one of the crochet along's Baby CAL projects. This one was interesting because ithas cables, something I havent ever tried in crocheting.

So all day yesterday I stitched and frogged and stitched and frogged and around 2 am I finally got it looking right. Here is the front without the white border.
Those cables are a terror! Well I learned that if I want to do cables then I need to look for another way, LOL.
Maybe tomorrow I will have the back done and add the neck border. It will be a cute little sweater, just dont know if I want to give it away. The upper cables are still bothering me. :-\
Catch you later!

We decided to stay put for a while, since it is further east than 1st expected. If it should move our way then we will be heading out. The recommended evacuation roads are clear so we wont be caught in traffic. I10 is blocked or shall I say, clogged with traffic, I sure hope they can get moving. Been there and it is slow, hot and scary.

Becareful everyone!!

Bonnie and I are watching movies, and I am fixing to start a hoodie for a baby sweater variation. Will post more about it when I get it going.

Last week I almost finished a blue baby sweater for a crochet along. I was going to make variations to the pattern but then it wouldnt count towards my crochet along stats. At least this way I will have more of a baby gift to give when someone has a baby. :-) Just need to add the button on the back and decide what kind of applique to make to add to it. This sweater definitely has girlie sleeves so it should be a girlie theme.

Here is a pic of the baby sweater thus far:

Received two traveling scarves last week and finished up two and mailed them off. Have one more to complete and then mail off to Virginia. Here is what I did on the two I have finished:

Havent posted in a while, been busy with little ones, especially since school started.

On August 18th, I started a
Baroque Tabard Tunic by Vashti Braha , pattern on the Caron.com site. Couldnt find the yarn it required so I am doing the while thing in a yarn I got at our local yarn shop, that we go to on Mondays for crochet and knitting and visiting. The yarn is called Kraemer Yarns Tatamy Tweed Worsted, and I am doing it in a forest color. So far it is very pretty and I cant wait to wear it at the Renn Fairre next month!

Here is a pic of what it will look like when finished:

See you after the hurricane!

Trip to Houston!

Hello!

Here is Bonnie with Kurt and Nina before her flight.
she is wearing her new hat. So glad she got there safe
and sound and is having a great time!

If you click on todays title you will be taken to a new yarn shop I visited this weeked! Or you can click here . Its called Nancy's Knits and it is a wonderful shop full of goodies!!

I met one of the ladies from my Traveling Scarf group there to give her my starter seed and got to meet several from Ravlery as well!! How cool is that? Here is my seed square for my traveling scarf. A very easy pattern that you will find here.

Kurt and Nina were there too, but you know what? I forgot to take a picture while I was there! You know what that means ..... another trip to Houston!!

While I was there, Nancy helped me find some yarn for Bonnie's wrap for the party next weekend. It is Karabella Gossamer, black with gold flecks and it is part mohair. I also got a size P hook (didnt like how it looked) a size 17 knitting needles (the space kept getting wider and wider between the needles) so I scrapped it several times before settling with a K hook and using the triple crochet in a mile a minute style design. Here is the link to my WIP on Ravelry.

Well back to taking care of the babies and crocheting!

Here is Bonnie's slouchy hat she wanted to wear on her way to Corpus. It was a very easy hat to make and I would recommend it to anyone.

Meet the family!

Welcome to DD's Hobbies! Here is where I will share some of my creations whether it is crochet, sewing, embroiderying, crazyquilting or whatever strikes my fancy, LOL. I never can just decide on one.

I am 46 and the mother of three girls or I should say ladies, Nina, Kim and Bonnie. Kurt is my wonderful husband, companion and friend and supports me in my endeavors as long as I don't start up too many at one time! LOL. Three years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and after surgery and chemo treatments, not only is my hair back but so am I!! I don't work perse' but I take care of two year olds in my home, sometimes more work than a regular job, but always rewarding. I have a two year old Papipoo (part Poodle and part Papillion) that is my constant companion and I have an albino rat named Daisy that is the sweetest rodent that you will ever be kissed by!! Yes I said kissed by, she loves to give little rattie kisses on your cheek, hands and fingers. We have a cat named Meowsers and she is 10 years old, originally Kimmy's, she stayed with us when Kim moved out and got her own apartment. Meowsers is a true mouser and she brings us gifts on a regular basis. She is also a tease and teases the pups whenever she can, of course when she is through with them, she gives them a swat and she is off! We also have a white pup named Trixie. She was a dropoff and seriously I do not know why. She is very smart and is such a cutie! She is our outside guard pup and she does a fantastic job of protecting us from rabbits, squirrels and will kiss you to death if you show up at our house un-invited. Don't get me wrong, she can tell if you are nice or not and will make sure she lets you know what she thinks of you.

Here is Trixie:

Here is Meowsers:

Here is Louie, he is modeling a scarf and a sweater I made for him. He must have gotten picked on by Trixie and the neighbors pups, because his little green sweater disappeared the first time out, LOL:

Here is Daisy:

Nina is married to Nathan and is an interior designer and has one of my four grandpups. His name is Copper and he is a Lab/bulldog mix, and full of energy! Her hubby, Nathan works in the architecture field as a Junior Architecture and job estimator. Together they make a wonderful family, that I am proud to call my own!!

Here is Copper, my first grandpuppy:

Kim is my second daughter and she is finishing up her schooling as a RN, and while she is finishing up RN schooling, is back home with us. She has two babies, Daphene, a Welsh Corgi, and Roo a miniature Daschund.

Here is Roo:

Here is Daphene:

Bonnie is my youngest and she is homeschooled. She has a Chinese Crested that we adopted from a rescue organization called Noah's Ark Sanctuary. Her name is Pearle and she is 1 and a half years old and very loving. Bonnie also has a rat named Marcineaux (sp?) I think that is spelled right, and she is Daisy's best buddy. She is a black and white hooded rat.
